Middletown Chronicles (the making of Middletown, America)
III. The Workers
cantata for soprano solo, tenor solo, SATB chorus, chamber orchestra
commissioned by Masterworks Chorale, Andrew Crow, Artistic Director
May 14, 2016 premiere

lyrics

People paid a whole lot of blood, tears. Workers now don't believe that they can control their own destiny -- well, they can do the same thing we did .. The wheels of a thousand factories musically humming, The flame that shoots from Nature's mighty reservoir -- embers like stars. People paid a whole lot of blood, sweat, and tears.
