about

Middletown Chronicles (the making of Middletown, America)
II. The Past is the Present
cantata for soprano solo, tenor solo, SATB chorus, chamber orchestra
commissioned by Masterworks Chorale, Andrew Crow, Artistic Director
May 14, 2016 premiere

lyrics

Looking back through old volumes of newspapers one expects some kind of insight into a world long dead, some kind of insight, a definite contrast to the present. Wouldn't it be funny to see how they lived? What was it like then? And then, to our surprise, we find that they were very much like us, and that the world, despite its accelerated evolution, has managed in many respects to stay the same. Looking back.
